I am but a vessel

that houses who I am

soul

A symbol of the outside

where inside my soul lands

jumping in his arms

I’ll only love you if I really do

breaking up

won’t fake it if I don’t

holding hands over ears

my ears have believed

a thousand lies

closed eyes2

but my eyes…

well, they just won’t.

woman at the mirror

seems as if I’ve spent a lifetime

being someone

everyone wished I’d be

fake people quote

but suddenly

I’ve become

the most authentic

part of me!

Lately, I have done a lot of soul searching. Who are we really? I will tell you what I think. We are not the vessel we are wrapped up in. That is just a shell that carries us through out our journey. We are what is inside the package. A bunch of memories, joys, and tears, triumphs and mistakes, goals and dreams. A heart and soul and series of lessons learned. It is not what is on the outside at all. That is just our shell. It has nothing to do with what is truly important.  In the end, what we leave behind is not the body we lived in… but the messages we believed in…. The faith we have shared, the authenticity we have learned to finally be comfortable in and accept nothing less.

Sure in the end….when people think of us… they will probably picture that vessel but it is what it carried that will really matter.

  1. This is deep and I love it. Most people just float about in life not really knowing anything that is real, or even who they are. It is important to take some time to reflect, because we can learn more from within, than we can learn on the outside 😉

Ps. I love the pictures, especially the last one 😀

    1. You said it perfectly about floating around not knowing who we are. YOU have learned the hard way what kind of a person you are and how strong you are on the inside and that is one good thing that has come from all this!!!!
Thanks about the pics! I use a lot of other people’s photos a lot but the ones of me were real! lol.

  2. I love this… it sounds just like me too! You write so beautifully and the images you choose are just perfect for the thoughts being expressed…. I agree BTW, no one really knows what’s inside of us… they see the outside, but knowing the true self is held in secret places within… I’ve missed being able to read your beautiful blog! Peace and Blessings. 😀

    1. Keli,
Just saw that you commented! Don’t know how I missed it here! But I guess I needed to read it exactly when I did… To connect with you…. remember to pray and ask ya how things are?

    1. I have to laugh… as I click on APPROVE! Do I approve?? lol. You bet! What a nice compliment! How could I not approve such kind words! You made my day!
      xoxo
      Thanks for reading!

  3. Great self-observations! In fact, the do apply across the board to all of us. From the dirt have come our bodies and to the dirt they will return…but the soul lives forever…

Good post! Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us…

      1. My pleasure! Let’s make regular visits as we go along here at WP. Have a very good day/night.

  4. Lovely Diane. I also recently realized that we are awareness itself, and that if the body drops away, we are still there, always in awareness. Sort of a different way of seeing what you have described here.

    1. Yes Yaz I think I get it. Our spirit is our awareness. Perhaps another word for soul? Being so wrapped up in the awareness of finally seeing every speck of knowledge ever given to us. And I do feel that God gives us so much more than we ever tap into.
      Thanks for reading!
      As always!

  5. Great thoughts, Di. We are, as you said, the spirit within the shell, and in due time we will even shed that earthly, human shell. Hugs

    1. I have finally gotten to the place where I am beginning to really want to know the spirit inside the shell! To work on it like I have the shell in the past. It is a new place for me to really see the possibilities! Thanks for reading Paul! My sweet Papa Bear!

  6. I couldn’t agree with you more. I like to think of our physical mortal bodies as rentals- they’re just on loan to us. When we die our spirit leaves the shell and there’s no more light in it. Our bodies look like John and Jane Doe without our sprits. I’ve seen enough death to know this is true. It is our spirit that makes us look like Diane and Lisa. Our society puts so much emphasis on appearance. I think the adversary must love this. We are so easily led astray.
Great post Diane. I love everything you write!!!! Xoxoxo

    1. Lisa…
We are admirers of each other! lol. And I even love your comments!! But if anyone wants to be blessed and entertained they need to mosey over to your blog after this one!!!!
I loved what you said about the spirit leaving and looking like Jane and John Doe! I have seen that too! It is kind of exciting to look forward to getting to find all those spirits out there that we have connected with someday!
      xoo

  7. I commented on this post at Catnipoflife’s blog. It is beautifully written and could apply to so many people. Thank you.

Sometimes you read something and just know it needs to be shared. Diane Reed writes from the heart and in her own words, “In my lifetime, I have realized that a lesson is worth nothing unless you pass it on. My blog is a lot about learning lessons. Some I am still learning, some I would like to share with others.”
Visit Diane @The One Thing I know For Sure not only to read this post in its entirety [which you must read to the very end for that is where this life lesson lies] but also to peruse her many other writings: A soft place to fall, some poetry, some stories, some random thoughts but most of all a place that I hope blesses those who stop by.

  9. wow ! Love the poetry and your views. Yes we are a vessel. The vessel contains everything in it, but still it is a mere vessel after all ! A mortal , ordinary vessel ! We know what is inside. No one other knows. And we are recognized ever with the same vessel !
